Peering across the throng of students steadily spilling onto the school’s wide front lawn, Audrey’s eyes rapidly swept through the mix until zeroing in on the familiar telltale golden strands of hair bobbing amongst her peers with more natural grace than most ever dreamed of attaining. Hurriedly, she quickened her pace, easily navigating her slender frame through and around milling teenagers relieved the weekend finally arrived. “’Lyssa, wait up!” she called in vain attempt to catch the attention of her friend, already knowing the mass of bodies milling between them would probably ensure her words remained unheard. It was Friday afternoon and it seemed as if the entire student body had gone insane, eagerly anticipating the freedom from classes and assignments which simultaneously meant the arrival of liberated silliness chiefly caused due to consuming far too much alcohol at one of the several parties likely to occur from now until Sunday night. Audrey, on the other hand, merely wished to spend a few minutes with her bestie before they’d settle into the more serious business of running through last minute drills in preparation for the upcoming football game later that night. Weaving her way amidst fellow classmates, the brunette managed to catch up to the blonde without too much additional trouble. Her breath came in slight pants from the effort of sprinting without getting trampled yet her eyes gleamed excitedly from the involved adrenaline rush. “I think everyone’s gone crazy,” she said by way of greeting after falling into line beside Alyssa. Flashing a grin, she nodded towards the cluster of giggling teens straight ahead. Their conversation was easy enough to follow, the content consisting largely of an unsupervised, adult-free party hosted by a popular senior while her parents vacationed in the Caribbean, blissfully naïve regarding their child’s antics. “I swear all I heard about the second half of the day was this party happening at Shelia’s place tonight,” she explained, pointing out yet another random flyer announcing its time and location, the sheet of paper left half crumpled in the grass just a few feet from where they stood. “Apparently discretion is not a game plan,” she surmised with a laugh and shake of her head, “Either she’s got her parents wrapped so tight around her little finger, they are blind as to what goes on while they’re away or she’s just sassy enough not to care about getting busted. Either way, I wouldn’t have the nerve to risk it, you know? By this point, I bet there are over a hundred people going. How’s she ever going to ensure nothing gets broken?” Marveling over the multiple possibilities of such event going awry, Audrey soon shrugged off her indifference. Reaching the designated spot where the squad often gathered for practice, she promptly began routine stretching though the appeal for said get together obviously hadn’t lost its shine. “So what do you think? Should we chance it after the game and see what’s going on at that party?” she asked, weighing their other options such as catching a late night movie or driving into Port Angeles for dinner at one of the fancier restaurants whose hours extended well past midnight. Her thoughts turned elsewhere then, a slight blush to her cheeks as she murmured another question; “Do you think Jason would be there?”

----------------------------- [/b] -----------------------------[/b][/center] School was beyond boring today. She hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before because of all the school work so she slept through most of her classes. Of course her family wasn’t all too happy as she did have some classes with them. Of course her mother probably saw it and her Uncle Edward read her mind and other student’s mind that had been in her class. So she knew she was going to have to have a talk with her parents about that. She so wasn’t looking forward to that but she was glad that she wasn’t riding home with them. That would be awkward. So she would wait a little after school to go home, maybe hang around with her two best friends or see Jason before facing the music so to speak.
Of course all day long all Alyssa heard about was the party. It wasn’t going on much before lunch but after it was all anyone could talk about. Since moving back here Alyssa had never went to a single party. She didn’t want to have to ask her parents for permission or anything happening that might potentially hurt her family. She was always careful about making sure none of her friends ever came over to her house. Only Jason and his family could because well they were like her family, they knew her families secret. Her best friends didn’t even know it and they both thought that Alyssa told them everything and vice versa. Alyssa felt bad for constantly lying to them but what was she going to do. Go oh yeah guys guess what I am human but my family is full of vampires but they don’t drink human blood so everything is cool. No way.
By the end of the day Alyssa was already ready to go home. It was the weekend after all but she was so not ready to go home to her parents. She then heard a familiar voice calling her name. She turned around and smiled. Audrey hey she said with a smile. She stopped and moved out of the way to wait for her brunette friend. She bit her lower lip as she waited and Audrey finally made her way over to her. Hey there she said as she ran a hand through her hair. She was glad to have Audrey here to talk to because she didn’t want to have to go find her. She didn’t want to give her parents enough time to tell her to go home and wait for them.
As soon as Audrey got there she started talking about the party that everyone was talking about. Yeah I know same here she said with a smile. She ran a hand through her hair again. Yeah I guess. I mean I wouldn’t risk it either. Too many people in my house to not get caught she said shrugging. Once at the spot where they practiced Alyssa sat her bag down and started stretching. Oh…I don’t know she said as she continued doing her stretches. Audrey had asked if Jason might go and she knew the answer to that question. Like Alyssa Jason had never went to a single party. She shook her head and said no I know Jason. He won’t be there. He never goes to any parties, like me.

Glancing at her friend out of sheer curiosity, Audrey’s brow arched slightly as she silently questioned Alyssa’s verbal admittance regarding a multiple person household. It was rare the golden haired female ever mentioned her family or even where exactly she lived. This was something Audrey accepted without pressing for further details, at least most of the time. Other days, like this very afternoon, the burning desire to learn more seemed to steal the vast majority of her thoughts. Peering over at her bestie as they moved through the familiar motions of warm ups before practice, the brunette cast an obviously inquisitive look despite the dismissive shrug Alyssa quickly offered. “Oh? Who are you so afraid would find out?” she asked lightly, suggesting the what-if scenario as they stretched. “Not that I’m in any way encouraging you to pull such a stunt or think you actually would or should, I just wonder sometimes, you know? We’re best friends and there are certain things I don’t know much about still and that’s okay as long as you know I’m here for you, okay?” She smiled, concern dotting the depths of her eyes, but the sincerity in her tone was undeniable. There were occasions when she worried about Alyssa’s elusive background. Why she didn’t speak openly about her family or ever invite Audrey over remained unknown factors with potentially not-so-nice reasons…or she’d just been watching far too much Law And Order lately. Dropping the subject for the time being, Audrey concentrated on touching her toes before quietly asking about Jason. The answer wasn’t really what she’d been hoping to hear, however, leaving a fleeting hint of disappointment to cross her expression before the smile returned. “We could still go if you wanted,” she said, “Part of me is honestly curious about just being there and seeing what goes on. I guess the other part is half afraid to know and twice as afraid to get caught. I don’t know either. The last thing I want is to be grounded and not allowed to drive for the next two weeks but if we just stopped in for even half an hour, how much harm could possibly happen?” she pondered aloud, wrestling with the exciting notion of dipping into the unknown. With a soft sigh, she grappled with this forbidden temptation and inwardly reprimanded herself for even considering it. Her parents would be livid, that was for sure. “We can always do something else,” she declared as the cheerleaders universally moved into formation. “Maybe go shopping in Port A,” she added quickly, watching Alyssa’s reaction to see if this would be of any interest or not. “I have some money saved up from work. I could treat you to dinner,” she told her with a grin, enjoying this teasing game of trying to entice her best friend to leave the safe boundaries of typical boring Forks. Nothing ever happened here and Audrey was dying a little inside with the overwhelming wish for something extraordinary to suddenly sweep her off her feet. Before heading to where they practiced at Alyssa had changed into comfortable shorts, tennis shoes, and a work out tank top. Her hair was up in a ponytail as she made her way over to her friend and where they practiced at. They were stretching and talking about some party that a kid at school was having. She never went to such things. She couldn’t risk anyone coming to her house to take her home. She couldn’t risk the exposure of her family. She wanted to make sure they stayed safe. She couldn’t risk losing any of her family members. She loved them and cared about them dearly. They took her in when her birth parent’s left her.
She still had nightmares about that. She dreamt about being in the woods, it raining and storming, being all alone crying. Her dreams added terrible things in the woods as well. From what she knew being around her family and what happened in her own past as well. She also still had nightmares about when she was raped in Port Angeles and the time she was attacked by a vampire in the woods. These things Alyssa had kept hidden from her friends except about being raped in Port Angeles. She couldn’t exactly hide a baby belly. Not one of them knew the real reason on how she had lost her baby boy. She didn’t want to tell them either. Most of her life was a secret even to her closest friends.
She rolled her eyes at Audrey’s comment about whom she might be afraid of catching her going to or having a party. Not afraid just don’t see the point in it she said as they continued stretching. I would know I would get caught anyway if I threw a party without asking permission so their wouldn’t be any guardians there. I am not stupid really so I don’t see the point and besides I don’t like parties anyway she said. She sighed and looked down. Yeah I know Audrey she said wishing she could share her secret with her friend.
She soon asked about Jason which she knew would come up in their conversation, he always did. Jason, a good family friend, had caught Audrey’s eye. She knew he felt bad though and he didn’t want to hurt Audrey at all and she knew that he liked her a lot but made her promise not to say anything. You can go I don’t really like parties. Just not my scene really she said not looking at her friend. She got into her normal spot as all the girls were getting ready. Everyone was done stretching.
She then said something about going shopping and having dinner in Port Angeles. Alyssa froze right there. She hadn’t been to Port Angeles since she was raped afraid to go back to the city. Whenever her friends went she always had an excuse as to why she couldn’t go. She stared straight ahead of her and yelled for everyone to start a routine. Alyssa kept quiet as they went through all the routines hoping Audrey would forget about going to Port Angeles. Once practice was over she gathered up her things, her cousin Katniss had gotten a ride home with her Uncle Emmett. Alyssa said she was going to stay over

Audrey glanced at her friend, silently gauging whether or not Alyssa was truly irritated or merely preoccupied. Offering a dismissive shrug as her attempts to make conversation were continually shot down, she instead focused on finishing the proper warm up exercises. “I never said you were stupid,” she argued defensively, not understanding the seemingly unwavering declination of attending any party whatsoever. With a sigh, she dropped the subject, deciding it was far better not to press the issue than it was to risk Alyssa being upset with her. Even so, she cast a briefly saddened expression before shifting attention elsewhere. “I don’t want to go without you,” she admitted quietly, “Oh well, maybe next time.” Her thoughts turned inward then, recalling how her parents often spoke of the good times they’d shared together before settling down. A keen pining for similar adventure settled deep into her gut, refusing to believe cheerleading and schoolwork were the height of high school activities. It was more curiosity than anything, an overwhelming sense of intrigue experienced every time she listened to the frequently wild tales depicted amongst fellow classmates. She herself usually lacked the desire to actively partake in such questionable scenarios, opting for the safer role of mere observer flitting along the sidelines. Besides, she didn’t see the point in going alone especially if Alyssa was correct in saying Jason wouldn’t be there. He would’ve tempted her enough to perhaps bravely forge ahead without familiar company but the notion of facing the unknown alone was a bit daunting to say the least. Factor in the likely possibility of facing consequential parental punishment afterward should she be caught attending an event they’d undoubtedly disapprove of and the appeal was even less. In fact, it was completely diminished. When Alyssa mentioned a party not being her scene, Audrey nodded in acceptance despite wondering if it was hers. She had no idea, having never participated in them, least in the sense of a student hosting an unsupervised gathering unbeknownst to any legal adult. “Okay then,” she said before suggesting dinner but the second Alyssa’s posture temporarily froze, Audrey knew she’d messed up. “I’m sorry,” she mouthed wordlessly as the team was called into routine. Guilt weighed on her mind during the various cheers they reviewed. She knew about Alyssa’s traumatic past and intuitively recognized the difficulties associated with having survived the ordeal. It was just frustrating at times because it seemed no matter what she asked about, it was somehow making her friend uneasy. The silence which ensued throughout practice was disheartening, leaving her apologetic once Alyssa quickly informed her about staying to talk instead of heading towards her cousin’s house. “Alright,” she acknowledged, “I didn’t mean to upset you. I just…well, I don’t know what else to suggest we do.” Heaving a sigh, she collected her few belongings. A long drink from chilled water bottle made her feel slightly better though she swiftly hoisted her backpack over a shoulder and waited for Alyssa before heading towards the secondhand car her mother previously bought specifically for her to drive. It was older but in decent shape plus it got her to where she wanted or needed to go so that was the biggest bonus of all. Unlocking the door, she set her stuff onto the backseat before turning back around to peer at her friend in concern. “Look, it's plain to see something is bugging you and you certainly don’t have to tell me but if you’re in some kind of trouble, you know you can count on me,” she said quietly, pulling the ponytail holder from her hair to let it cascade around feminine shoulders. “I’ve got some time to kill…if you want to grab a bite to eat right now?” she asked, thinking a sugary soda might do her nerves some good. Alyssa knew that Audrey didn’t mean any harm by anything she said. I know Audrey. I’m sorry I snapped okay just a little on edge with things she said. Alyssa’s whole family was perfect and so the pressure was on her and her cousin Katniss to be perfect as well. When Audrey said though that she didn’t want to go to the party without Alyssa guilt ripped through her. She felt bad because Audrey never wanted to go to a party alone and Alyssa never wanted to go. She told Audrey she could always go with Carter, the third member of their group. Why was it always that Alyssa had to go or no one could go? That just put more pressure on the blond. I am sorry Audrey she said.
Alyssa had enough of being the downer of the group, of people not going to parties just because she wouldn’t. Audrey you really should go. Don’t not go because I won’t okay she said trying to encourage her friend to have some fun. Who knows I may be wrong and Jason may go she said even though she knew it wasn’t true. She knew Jason but she wanted her friend to have some fun and be happy. After practice Alyssa walked silently to her car which was next to Audrey’s. She put her stuff in the trunk and sighed. It’s fine Audrey. Don’t worry okay. I have to get over my issues someday right. Dinner sounds great she said trying to put a smile on her face.
She ran a hand through her hair. I’m not in any trouble. Promise. How about this? We change first, take your car to your house, and then go to Port A. We can go shopping then have some dinner she said. Alyssa hated shopping but she wasn’t about to tell Audrey that. There were some things she kept from her friend and there was a reason for that. So she wouldn’t get too close to her family, to protect them.
